Logo Redesign

A study project on the redesign of the logo system and visual identity for a digital service of e-books, audiobooks, podcasts, and other media. Created prior to the official redesign in 2022.

The new logo is based on the illustrated part of the previous version, borrowing just one, but quite successful symbol that refers to reading in general (including printed books, e-books, and even audiobooks) — the bookmark symbol. This simultaneously creates continuity with the previous recognizable image and allows for the development of both a logo system and an overall visual identity based on it.
The bookmark symbol is combined with the first letter of the service’s name, which, due to its extremely concise glyph, allows for the creation of a counterform metaphor of a book with a bookmark. This resonates with the previous logo, from which the color of the middle book is taken as the most contrasting of the three, while the color of the bookmark is based on the familiar orange, shifting it towards a slightly cooler shade.
The bookmark symbol transitions from a graphic sign into the logo system and becomes the same separator for the compound names of auxiliary services as the colon was in the previous version of the logo.
Alongside its role as a vertical separator, the bookmark symbol also works beautifully in a horizontal position, with varying aspect ratios, becoming a container for any content — from the name of an auxiliary service or product to interface elements like buttons and tags.
The slightly greater uniqueness of the bookmark symbol compared to the colon as a standard punctuation mark allows for branding of inscriptions without using the name of the parent brand (in addition to the bookmark symbol, highlighting the first letters in the brand gradient is also included).
The simplicity of the graphic sign’s shape is advantageous when adapting it for auxiliary services. It allows for minor modifications while maintaining a reference to the parent brand, enabling the creation of new metaphors. For example, in the case of the "Samizdat" logo, simply by changing the angle of the inner contour, the bookmark transforms into a schematic representation of a pencil from the old logo of the service.
Using the same principle of maintaining recognizable structures, existing names of applications for e-books and audiobooks can be branded by stylizing the exclamation mark and repeating the color scheme of the main logo.
