Agona

Logo Redesign
Visual Identity

An educational project for students by the IT company “Technokratos” — a series of offline courses and laboratories at universities led by the company’s developers, designers, analysts, and engineers. Following these courses, students have the opportunity to undertake internships and practical training, with the potential for subsequent employment.

The initial version of the logo, designed by Nail Gainanov, was refined — Cyrillic letters were brought closer together in terms of form, while optical compensation was added to the Greek letters at the junctions of strokes and ovals. The stroke thickness of all letters was increased, and the masses of the internal letter spaces were balanced. These adjustments resulted in a more rhythmic and cohesive overall inscription.
The focus on the young target audience of Agona — university students — allowed for experimentation with visuals on social media. The effect of optical illusions in 3D renders is combined here with hand-drawn illustrations and decorative elements. The chosen display font, Neue Machina, harmonizes with the logo through its “ink traps” and the overall proportions of the letters.
“Thanks to the comprehensive rebranding, the project’s brand recognition among students has significantly increased. As a result, we achieved a threefold growth in student conversion rates in our educational programs and doubled the number of recommendations for our courses.”

The name and identity of Agona are rooted in references to antiquity — specifically, the ideas of competition (“agon”) and the realization of potential (“paideia”). Consequently, the merchandise draws on imagery from ancient culture while moving away from an academic presentation, striving to integrate these elements into a contemporary visual environment.
Agona collaborates with various universities, establishing educational laboratories within their faculties and launching offline and online courses for students. As part of this collaboration, guidelines and documentation for the courses, video materials, and presentations were developed, along with the design of classroom interiors and public events.
“We [with Aleksey] actively worked on presenting the visual aspects of each educational partner, creating personalized presentation materials, which in turn led to a high level of satisfaction among the universities with our collaboration.”

Result
In the two years since the project was launched in its new format, brand recognition has significantly increased: the number of students wishing to join Agona has risen by 60% (from an average of 2 to 3.5 applicants per spot).
This growth has led to an expansion of the course offerings from two (Frontend and Mobile) to six (Backend, Design, QA, SA), and the number of graduates has increased from 40 to 120. Additionally, the percentage of positive recommendations from students has doubled.
“I express my sincere gratitude for Aleksey’s contribution. I was incredibly happy to work with such a professional who knows how to listen and truly understand.”

During the development phase, three special projects were launched on Agona’s social media platforms, focusing on gamifying the educational process and promoting the IT sector. This initiative included a series of posts, stories, and live streams featuring mentors who provided foundational information, professional advice, and feedback across several key areas — Java, Systems Analysis, and Python — catering to those taking their first steps into the world of IT.
